The University of Oklahoma in Norman is home to one of the finest university art museums in the country: the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art (FJJMA). Established in 1936 by OU art professor Oscar Jacobson, the museum started as a collection of 250 items and has swelled to nearly 17,000. Main features include French Impressionism, traditional and contemporary Native American and Southwestern art, Asian art dating from the 16th century to the present, and 20th-century American paintings and sculptures.
Each semester, FJJMA offers multiple temporary exhibitions and gallery rotations from the museum's permanent collection and works on loan. Art enthusiasts of all ages are encouraged to take part in the museum's educational programs and classes, which are free unless otherwise noted.
